With Make It Your Business coming to London at the end of this week to discuss the all-important question, “When should you leave the corporate world to pursue entrepreneurship?” we caught up with one of our esteemed panellists, Jennifer Ison, Founder of petite fashion brand Jennifer Anne, for a quick fire insight into what she will be discussing on the panel this Friday…
MIYB. Jenny, what inspired you to leave the corporate world and start your business and how did you know it was the right time?
JI. A real belief in and passion for my business idea!
MIYB. What does a good day on the job look like to you then and what’s the best part about owning your own business?
JI. When I get great feedback from customers and can really feel that I am making headway!
MIYB. What are the biggest challenges you face as a business owner and how do you overcome them?
JI. The biggest challenge is to remain strong and upbeat even when you have setbacks but you’ve just got to grit your teeth and plough on!
MIYB. Absolutely! What would you consider your biggest achievement so far?
JI. Setting up a new brand with its own distinct identity!
MIYB. Is there anything you miss about the corporate world and if so what?
JI. There is not much I miss but definitely having someone there who mends the printer when it stops working would be nice!
MIYB. We hear you on that! What is the one piece of advice you’d give to any aspiring female entrepreneur who is looking to leave the corporate world?
JI. Do a lot of research and planning before you take that step – it is not an easy road!
MIYB. Lastly then, what are you most looking forward to about the MIYB event on Friday?
JI. Meeting a talented and enthusiastic group of women and exchanging ideas and experiences!
